Build Worlds

A tour photographer's portfolio, built so the photographs arrive before the words do.

Build Worlds home page — a wall of concert photographs behind a large serif wordmark reading Build Worlds, with book and view-work actions.

Alex O'Brien is a tour and concert photographer based in Nashville. The site opens on a wall of his own frames with the name set over them, so the first thing anyone considering a booking sees is the work itself rather than a hero graphic standing in for it.

Photo, video and creative direction each have their own route through the site, and the booking action is present from the first screen without ever becoming the loudest thing on it.

Motion & interaction

The hero holds a grid of stills behind the wordmark rather than a single image, so the range of the work reads before any individual frame does. There is also an easter egg, for anyone who goes looking.

Development

Hand-built: plain HTML, one stylesheet, and vanilla JavaScript split into data, application and easter-egg modules. The content lives in a single data file, so adding work is an edit rather than a rebuild.
